Top Removal
What kind of ideas have you'll employed in removing your tops, especially if you're by yourself?
I have a tall enough shop and am thinking about some kind of rope & pulley system. Pictures?

Re: Top Removal
I just unbolted it, picked up a corner and slipped a short 2x4 block under it. Then I did the other 3 corners. Then I went back and replaced the blocks with full length 2x4's that stuck out about 4 inches on each side of the truck. Then I drilled the 2x4's and added 4 eye bolts. Then I screwed 4 eye bolts into the ceiling. Then I just ran 4 tie-down straps from the ceiling to the 2x4's then I picked up each corner 6" at a time until it was against the ceiling. Done. 1 person. 1 hour.

Re: Top Removal
Double wall top = 2 men
Single wall top = 4 men ![]() I have removed my double wall top by myself, but it wasn't pretty. Luckily it was not in the greatest shape to begin with. As for my single wall me and a buddy removed it and it was a little heavy for just two people.

Re: Top Removal
I didn't say anything about using ratchet straps. I use tie-down straps. The straps I used only have the little spring loaded lock on them. Same ones I have used for 20 years of hauling motorcycles all over the country. I never ever use the straps with the ratcheting buckles. I find they are a pain in the arse. To lower it down I just hold the strap and release the spring loaded buckle and lower it down. There is enough friction in the strap that it is easy to hold the strap in one hand.
It's great because I can lower it down to work on it and then just raise it back up when I'm done. Also it's a double walled top. straps like these... http://www.cargogear.com/OneItemInfo...num=HICTD1X12H I got a 4 pack of them at Home Depot for $11. |

Re: Top Removal
This is how I am hanging mine from the garage ceiling. Forward plan us to install an electric winch that will raise and lower.

Re: Top Removal
I always put the tailgate down, climbed inside & found the center point and lifted it with my shoulders/back & walked it out lol I found taking the blazer top off easier than taking our Jeep JKs top off lol Never anybody around to help & low garage so it was a front lawn ornament on sunny days.
