Damn. Looks like the pinion walked on the carrier at some point on the 12 bolt 3.73 axle. I found a good 3.43 rear end which is what I would like for a good price but it is set up with leaf spring suspension. I feel like I am changing so much already in my 61. Thoughts?

If the differential with the 3.42 gears is a truck 12 bolt, just pull the parts out of that housing, and put them in the '63 housing. You will have to change the side spider gears with the '63 side spider gears since the '63 & '64 axles are 17 spline. You will want to check the tooth contact pattern after you swap the parts.

Your going to need to move the trailing arm perches anyway on the 12 bolt.
They are in a different location than the 61 eaton rear. You would be better off finding a 3.07 12 bolt and welding the perchs on it. the 73-80 12 bolts out of 4X4s have 6 lug. LOTS of 4X4s had 3.42 gears. I have found several.

I guess a 12 Bolt from a car would not work or would not be the same right? What about a ford 9"? I think I found some.

This truck looks like a 9" axle. Couldn't get through the ants. Sorry for the sideways pictures. I don't know why they are.

I don't know what this is but its GM and has date code of A157 (jan15 1957) and number 3726899 serial on it.

This one will be 2-3/4" wider than your Eaton HO32.
