Door Panel vinyl paint/dye color match

I have tried to go back and read existing threads about getting a color match for SEM or Dupli-color for my door panels. It seems they always end up at the same place which is nowhere. I am trying to redo a set of 1984 door panels in the factory color "Dark Charcoal". You are probably familiar with it, it is not black and it is not charcoal gray. I talked with the NAPA folks and they can match it for me but only in regular paint not the vinyl dye. GM used this same color for years in the mid 1980's I would think there would be a real demand for this product and color. Has anybody ever successfully got this color or does anyone have an idea how to get this?

Re: Door Panel vinyl paint/dye color match

I wanted to finish up my experience with the SEM Graphite. I was excited to order it and got the correct Graphite color. It arrived yesterday and I went out and tried the color on some old dark charcoal door panels I have. Unfortunately, it did not work out well for me. I don't know why, but the Graphite color is noticeably lighter. I have been trying to get a good set of door panels so I have three sets of factory dark charcoal panels. They are all the same color and they are all darker than graphite. I am glad it has worked for other guys, but my search continues.

Re: Door Panel vinyl paint/dye color match

I too have an '87 Silverado with the dark charcoal interior. I tried to get a color match at the locale Dupont paint supplier here in Virginia Beach but to no avail. However, I have 2003 Silverado with the dark Charcoal interior it appears to be a dead on match. I'm going to pursue that route in order to dye my new dash.
