Check Griots for glass spiffing stuff http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.do?query=glass They sell to the high end sporty car guys and restorers of the real fancy stuff and have some good products.

Re: scratched glass fix???
Scratches are basically grooves - they will retain more tint material than the smooth glass, but maybe not enough to bother some folks.

If you can catch the scratch with a fingernail, its toast.

Re: scratched glass fix???
I thought my windows were nice, then I tinted them. Scratches I didn't know about were now clear as day. Ended up getting new glass and getting it re-tinted.

Re: scratched glass fix???
you must be rich norcal72 $400 for new glass is a little to much for me. but then again that's with shipping which is what kills it. i'll be honest I haven't check to see how deep it is. I bought it loaded it up took it home and went to bed. tomorrow i'll take a better look I don't think there to deep. i thought if they were deep they could be buffed down or something. im guessing its tempered glass am i wrong?

Re: scratched glass fix???
What glass is it that you need. I own a glass company and &400 is a lot unless you have a 5 window and it's the curved glass. Everything other than the curved glass can be cut from laminated glass and it's not that much. You can also buy grey laminated if you want. However good tint has a uv protection that laminated doesn't.
Also they make scratch removal kits. I own a couple. $1500 and you can remove scratches even if they are deep enough to fill them. However it's usually not worth the time and effort. Just get a new piece made. The glass usually ends up getting distorted. There are a lot of options you can go though. If it's the curved glass. A scratch resistant polycarbonate aka Lexan can work well. I prefer the real curved glass though. Just gets expensive if you chopped the cab and need a custom piece however it's all possible. |

Re: scratched glass fix???
If the scratch is on a flat section of glass and doesn't feel too deep it might be talking to a glass shop and see if they have a glass polishing kit. Due to expense smaller shops may not have them though. With the right person doing it you will be amazed at what they can buff out. Even on tempered glass.

Re: scratched glass fix???
After reading the specs on the windshield polish I posted the link on it may not be the right stuff for what you want to do. It looks like it is more for getting the hard water scuzzies off glass.
I'd agree that window tint like shiny paint, chrome plating or powder coating doesn't hide any flaws but tends to magnify them.

Re: scratched glass fix???
Lowrodderchevy,
New big rear windows go for $155-$195 from The Car and Truck Shop down here in O.C. I use them all the time but I go pick up whatever I buy. I've heard bad things about their customer service for some guys but haven't encountered it yet. I've got a spare big rear window without ANY scratches on it. I MAY have a way to get it for you free too, I'll drop you a PM.

Eastwood has a glass polishing kit that works. Take your time and don't build to much heat
