Moodys 1959 Chevy Apache

Howdy all!

My name is Alex Moody, Just another chevy lover from Salt Lake City.

I got this Chevy on a trade for some work that he owed me. She needs some love but up for the fun and challenge of it. Im a pretty young pup compared to some of you folks so any help or advice will always be welcomed!

This poor Chevy sat for who knows how long before I got it. For some reason the spark plugs were taken out... Now the spark plugs are packed full of dirt.

First things first. Getting her down to the frame and seeing how bad/good it is.

Welcome.
Looks a little rough but I've seen a lot worse brought back to life.
Good luck with the build.

What engine is in it? It should have a chevy V8 and that loks more like an olds/pontiac/buick engine.

Re: Moodys 1959 Chevy Apache

Valve covers say GMC so maybe someone dropped in the Pontiac/GMC engine in place of an original six?? Instrument bezel has a bowtie so its not a Fleet option GMC.

Yeah it's from a gmc from the early 70's as I remember correctly from looking it up. It's actually supposed to have the 6 cylinder in it.

As far as what my plans are I have a few ideas. I am thinking of doing a crate motor. Like a ZZ4 or something along that line. It has a Muncie sm420 transmission. It actually came with two of them. I do want to out bags for the suspension. Other than that. Pretty much up in the air on ideas.

Re: Moodys 1959 Chevy Apache

Looks, like the casting date on the manifold is 66, that would make it a GMC 305 V6

Re: Moodys 1959 Chevy Apache

So, I got this over the weekend. Nice little surprise to came up over the classifieds. He used it once over the last three years and i payed half of what he did. 1800 for this car lift. It will fit perfectly in my garage. This should help with working on it... just a little right?

It would take a lot more work then its worth to get this motor working. Plus Im pretty sure I wouldn't make anything back on it. Just for example here is the thermostat housing. Something had a nest in it.

I did manage to get a lot of work done on it however. The cab floor looks great! Ill need a new fire wall and transmission cover. Also got the front end mostly disassembled.

Re: Moodys 1959 Chevy Apache

How did something get down in there?
Inside doesn't look that bad compared to mine..
I'd spray some LineX or something on the Cab floor
