Parking brake cable help??
I'm tearing down a 1969 GMC c10 and I'm down to 1 last thing in the firewall before I can take the cab off. How do I get the parking brake cable to pull through the small rectangle hole in the firewall? Its got a clip that holds the cable sleeve to the parking brake pedal frame and that's the part that won't fit through the hole. Or am I supposed to pull the cable from the outside into the cab? Help??

Re: Parking brake cable help??
I think I pulled mine thru the firewall into the cab after seeing what you see. I only have one problem, now. My '68 cab uses a hand-operated e-brake and I don't have one for it. There's only a couple or three bolts that hold it to the firewall, on the engine side. Piece of cake.

Re: Parking brake cable help??
i seem to remember unclipping that thing and wondering how I was going to reattach it when I put the truck back together.

Re: Parking brake cable help??
How do you take it apart to pull it through that way? I'm looking at the place where it splits to go to each side and I'm not seeing a way to take it apart.

Re: Parking brake cable help??
If I understand your question, you are trying to figure out how to get the cable end (the end that attaches to the parking brake pedal assembly) shown in the picture below through the rectangular hole in the firewall. First of all, there should be a rectangular grommet in the hole for the cable to pass through. I put a slit in the left side of the grommet, passed the cable through the slit, then put the grommet in the hole.
Hope that helps. |

Re: Parking brake cable help??
Well there was another large clip that couldn't be removed that kept it from going through that way. And I figured out how to detatch it from the bracket where it splits after I cleaned about a half inch of caked on grease and mud off it and found out there actually was 2 nuts holding it on. Got it all figured out now and my cab is ready to come off when I get the help. Thanks. Should be starting a build thread soon. Have pics saved up.
