Another Transmission question

I have another probably stupid question to ask. I'm changing over from an automatic coulmn shift to a floor shift. Question is, how do you know where to cut the hole for the shifter? Planning on using a lokar trans mounted shifter on a TH350 trans. Truck is '65 long bed. It does not have a removable hump.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Another Transmission question

I've never done that before, but I would just get as much put together as possible, then run a drill bit up from the bottom in the area where the shifter needs to penetrate and start cutting a small amount out until you have the hole in the correct place and the correct size.

Re: Another Transmission question

The beauty of the Lokar is that it allows so much fore and aft adjustment. I've only put one in my own vehicles, but I chose the location from above so I could assure it didn't hit the dash or seat when operated through the range. Then using landmarks on the floorboard I went underneath and made sure it fell within range over the top the the trans. There's enough sets of holes to choose from on the Lokar that there's a lot of leeway as to positioning.
