More stupid DOOR LATCH QUESTIONS

Ok, se we need to replace the latches on our doors or we will find our doors flying open around corners. So here is what I found. Perhaps I am missing something and need your advice.

Buy Altman latches for $349. We know these are great. If you want to maintain the outside handle or not, now you have to buy actuators and a remote system if you want to use a remote to unlock. This would cost ???? I dont know? What ever this is plus the 349.

Get the autoloc system that has the actuators and remote system with it for $319. I heard that this system works well also.

Are there other options that can accomplish this that are not so pricy?

WHat truck do you have? I just saw some seventies VW latches installed on an AD and they looked right at home!

I was looking at prior threads and came across one where Scotts Hot Rods has a kit for $110 that includes double bear claws and install panels that can be used with your stock door handle, but the locks would have to be actuated by solenoids. I called him and he confirmed it. He said they have used them for years and have not had any problems. The remote lock system is $159.

I have searched here and asked these latch questions before,so I get the idea that there is no "accepted go-to method" for latching doors for the AD trucks,so I will ask a different way.

Let's take the ultimate modern convenience,like you would find on say,a 2007 truck.Is there a latch system out there that will..... work with both a power lock,remote lock,and have manual inside and outside(key) locking,and work with power windows? And work with stock style outside and inside door handles?

I am there with you. Are you kidding me that there is not a solution for this at a reasonable price? I think the Altman latches can do all this but are pricey. Maybe we need to take the systems out of modern cars at the junkyards. Someone has had to do this before.

the 50 yr old latches are worn out.
i just used stock repop latches in truk
22,000 miles and never had a door pop open
$30 each for latches and $20 for a set of strikers

I actually bought NOS latches and handles for my truck over a few years on Ebay, BRAND NEW GM made latches and handles that have never been on a truck.

Ok,it's good to know someone else has noticed the same thing.If it has been done,it's not common from what I can tell.

I started off thinking I wanted to keep things very simple,but I want to do a major project for a truck I will drive daily about 400 miles per week,and I want to look forward to everything my lazy ass has grown accustomed to when I get in it.

I started off asking about the ultimate in modern convenience,figuring we can work down from there,because I know there are some compromises with the easily available choices out there,but I get foggy when trying to comprehend the whole scenario.I'd like to get it cleared up somehow.
