removal of leaf springs
Hey guys,
I'm trying to help my buddy remove a leaf from his rear leaf springs on an '80 C-10. How exactly do we go about this? Thanks in advance.....

You'll need a jack for lifting the truck and a couple of axle stands. On top of the leaf spring pack you'll see the tops of four studs with large bolts of them, you'll need to remove these bolts.
Before doing so, lift the truck up so that most of the pressure has been taken off the leaf spring pack, but so that it is still on the axle stand. Remove the bolts and the axle will drop down onto the axle stand. Now there are two more bolts to remove, one at the front of the spring pack, and one on the back of the spring pack. Keep safety as number one at all times, any jacked up vehicle is unstable, never under any circumstances put yourself into a situation where the truck could fall and injure you, that means from sticking your whole self under the truck to sticking your legs under the truck. The bolts will be VERY hard to get off as they are likley rusted on, and putting that much torque through a decent sized breaker bar is more than enough to knock the truck off the jack. I've done this once before, and I'm 17, so I'm sure that you can do it if you are careful and think about what you are doing before you do it.

Just jack the truck up and with the jack positioned under the pumpkin remove all U-bolts from the rear lower it enough to gain access to the leaf spring pack center tie bolt unbolt it and remove the leaf you dont want then reasemble in reverse order sometimes you may need to add washers to the tie bolt to compensate for the thickness of the missing leaf .
