bake pushrod length question

I put the captainfab bracket and booster on today. What is the best way to get the correct length for the pushrod? I'll have to take the booster off to get a threaded tube for the booster end but from there I'm lost. I think I read that I have to drill a hole an inch lower in the pedal arm and cut threads in the old pushrod but I have no idea how long the rod needs to be. Do I just cut enough threads into the old arm and adjust it as I go?

What I do is trim both the booster pushrod, and the original pushrod and weld them together. You will have to mock it all up and just pick a good spot to cut them both. That way you have the adjustment that is part of the original pushrod. Yes it is a good idea to drill another hole aprox 1" lower on the pedal arm.

Re: bake pushrod length question

Thanx John. I got a new booster and MC for a 70 Impala. I hope thats the right MC to use. The booster has a threaded rod coming out the back so should I get threaded tube for that part and cut down the stock rod and weld that together? Sorry I spaced off meeting up with you Monday. Mt dog got the wondering itch and I had to get him out of doggy jail and take him to the vet for kennal cough. lol I'll swing by tomorrow and try to get this figured out. I do better being able to hear it than over messaging.

Re: bake pushrod length question

Booster to master rod should be right if you bought a set. If not 1/8 or so clearance there so the piston can fully retract.

Measure the pedal freetravel at the bump stop. Some set it for 1/4 inch - your factory rod should be threaded/adjustable. I went with just about 1/8. Piston uncovers the ports and better pedal.

Yes, change ratio by mounting the pedal to booster rod one inch lower. Also, fine tune your brake adjustments. I adjust a bit tighter up front a bit less in the rear. Rear is light and they can be easy to lock up but they will balance out and ye'll almost never lock em cept for a panic or real wet roads.

Re: bake pushrod length question

The MC and booster were seperate units. They didn't have a assembled set so I will check that. The booster has a threaded rod coming out the back going into the cab so I will need to take it back off and find some threaded tube to make the stock pushrod fit. Sounds like it shouldn't be too hard to figure out, I'll cut the pushrod short and cut threads into it so I have lots of adjustment.

Re: bake pushrod length question

pics and descriptions are in my build thread and the power brake install thread I did. Its pretty easy. Ya don't even need a welder as a sleeve and setscrew will do.

If I stop overthinking it the battle is half won. lol I have never done anything like this before so I get a little nervous. I need to relax it's only metal!

Re: bake pushrod length question

Painful part is cutting off the end of the booster to sleeve or weld it to the brake pedal pushrod.
