I had a 66 Impala 12 bolt under my 48 in the early 80's that worked great and fit a lot better than some of the other rear ends do.

You could always have the axles and drums redrilled to go 5 on 4-3/4 and swap gears but that would probably cost more than changing axles.

I'm going late 70's disk brake Trans Am because a friend gave me one a few years ago.
