I would say it is desirable. It's really based on how much load-carrying capacity it is rated at. Obviously, GM thought that it could carry more than just a regular C10. That's why you see C20's and 30's with no cat converter or smog pump. They classify them as heavy-duty trucks and so they are exempt from some "clean air" laws.

That's a nice build.
