MSD 6010 - which pill for initial start up?

'72 Suburban, wrapping up an LS1 with a mild cam and 4L60E swap with a Holley 650 double pumper and an MSD box....any advice on which "pill" if any to use on the initial start up?

Thanks!

Re: MSD 6010 - which pill for initial start up?

I ran the 6012 for a while but not the MSD 6010 so I cant say for sure about the pills. One thing I can tell you is the MSD box will add in whatever is in the vacuum advance table regardless whether a source is actually hooked up...or at least mine did. 0 out the table and you get no vacuum advance timing added, just whats in the primary table.

Hahaha....the white timing "pills"....theres 5 or 6 different timing curves that you can change out via little white "pills" that plug into the top of the box....I was just curious whats good to start out with on the initial fire up, just to get it up and running

Re: MSD 6010 - which pill for initial start up?

You might try a #3 pill (mild cam, medium to low gears). I run a #2 in my 5.3...(stock cam, & 3.40 gears)? Between the 2 pills, I don't think you will find a bunch of difference....use what you have , & don't be scared to 'experiment' crazyL

Re: MSD 6010 - which pill for initial start up?

started right up with the #3 pill...unfortunately, the braided auto meter hard line going to my oil pressure gauge wasn't crimped properly or something because oil just started pissing from the dash side fitting all over my leg so Im dead in the water until I can get another line. Of all the things that could go wrong on initial start up, I wasn't expecting to have motor oil piss all over me INSIDE THE TRUCK

cam specs are 216/224 585/585 112LSA

Re: MSD 6010 - which pill for initial start up?

Nothing quite like oiling you pants leg, inside the truck! I saw a garage ceiling get oiled one time....Dad was helping the neighbor with his 31 ford coupe. Late nite, & a few beers, they fired the 283, & chilled it pretty quick (no oil pressure)! Dad says, yea you have oil pressure....look UP ! Somebody had not hooked the oil line to the fitting rear of the intake Chit happens...longhorn
