fiberglass mini tubs
Just wondering if anybody has used these. Would like to know how they fit, any problems, stuff like that. I'm thinking about going this route. I found them at Bowtie Bits who is a board sponsor I think. Jim Carter also has the same ones I think but no picture on the website.

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
nothing made of fiberglass is going near my old iron. Just my two cents.

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
I would be concerned using fiberglass that rocks and other debris would damage them over time. Fiberglass has a tendency to "star" when impacted.
Some other ideas to consider.. Stock fleet side bed inner wheel wells. They can be cut to any width needed, be it narrower or wider, and they look period correct. Also could do the "trailer fender" modification. I did that on mine. Last edited by lakeroadster; 08-28-2011 at 08:47 AM. |

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
I actually seen a pair of these today in a 1972 C10 swb stepside and the guy has had them in truck for quite some time. They were painted same color as truck and they looked like metal. The best feature I seen about these are the flanges that they have around the base. I am sold.

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
gmhardwick66,
I actually ended up using a metal set from dan carpenter's. They look very similar, only a lot more money. I couldn't find any pictures of the fiberglass ones installed and wasn't sure how they'd fit. The metal ones have been used by a few board members and they had lots of install pics. If you see them again, try and snap a couple of pics. I'd still be interested in seeing the final product. |

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
this is a picture the owner sent me this morning. I will take bore picture on the 13th of this month and post them. The best feature I like are the actual mounting flanges so mounting to bed floor would be easy and look good. Like I said before these are painted same color as truck and look like steel. You can not tell the difference from the two types of materials like where the tub and bed side meet. I think they are very pricy but for the ease of mounting probably worth it.

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
The friend of mine had his truck in a local show yesterday and I was able to get more pictures of his fiberglass mini tubs from Bowtie Bits.com. I think they are 199$ for the 4" tubs. I will be getting some soon. Let me know if these photos help.

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
Those look better than I thought they would. Thank you for taking the time to take and post the pics. I wish I could've seen them installed before I bought mine. I might have went that route.

Re: fiberglass mini tubs
If you buy the glass ones, take them to a bedliner dealer and have them sprayed smooth[no texture] and they will last just as long as the steel ones unless you using your truck like a truck and throwing stuff in the bed.
