Any input on CPP steering conversion for 60-62

Hey guys, been doing research and reading threads till my eyes bleed. I'm working on getting all my info and parts together for some work this winter and looking for any advice.

Doing a steering conversion on my '62 while swapping front suspension from a '79 and CPP is the only company I've found that has a specific steering conversion. Anyone ever used it?

I've read other kits, more for the 63-66 can be used with some work.

When you say steering conversion are you swapping out the torsion bar suspension for the 79 cross member / a arms? Are you just doing a 60-62 disc brake spindle swap?
Or are you talking about a POWER steering conversion?

I used all CPP parts in doing the steering conversion, and xmember swap.

The steering plate wasn't perfect. I had to do some drilling and grinding to make it fit. Also, be prepared to make your own sleeves for the frame. Our frames are boxed and the rails want to collapse somewhat if too much torque applied to the bolts. So, I used short lengths of pipe and drilled bigger holes on the inside and slid the pipe into the frame, then welded in place.

ALSO be sure to do this on the idler arm side. The frame will crush and your idle arm will go to a silly angle if you don't sleeve the frame there too.

The CPP conversion plate is an ok place to start, but be prepared. There's fab work to do. It's not plug and play.

The kit I got from CPP 60-62 was an easy bolt on , one hole drill install and included everything. As OP mentioned it was the only kit I found made for the 1960-1962 frame. There are others that have used 63-66 CPP or the REZ kits that have had to fab and modify it.

I'll be pulling the crossmember with torsion bars and all out and replacing with the crossmember from a '79.

That's good info, I didn't see the first thread with the pics of your steering install.

I've read the other one about the crossmember swap several times, it'll be real handy this winter.

I'm planning on using a manual steering box and column from a late 60's or early 70's pickup. I bought them from the same truck and for the life of me I can't remember exactly what year it was.
