350 SBC/700r4 Shift points.

i have a 86 k1500 with a 350 and 700r4 and i have a few questions on how to determine shift points. understand power band and revving too high is pointless but i feel 4700 shift point is a little too low and im not making full power. i tried searching but i cant find anything. i need help finding my power band. i understand dyno but is that the only way? can i find rpm range on my cam/intake/heads and buy the kit and set it where the range ends? im putting on aftermarket heads and i want max potential out of this motor. any advice for a younger builder?
