Disk upgrade 66 C10 step side

Hi from across the pond!

I'm in the uk and looking to upgrade the drums on my C10.

I've got to buy from the states .....but who's is the best to buy from, I know there are lots of suppliers but lots of things look great on the web, and maybe not so good in reality!

I'm after 6lug front disks and 2 1/2" dropped spindles all necessary hardware and power brake DM Cyclinder, ball joints etc etc

Ideally a one stop shop! Who ship to Uk

Any recommendation welcome

Hard for me to say because I really dont know much.. But!, I got my parts from a salvage yard (the whole front clip from a 87) and I wanted to keep the 6 lug so I ordered the rotors from here;

A bit more pricy.. but I dont think anyone would dispute the quality.

I have McGaughy on mine. I ordered it off of Summit Racing. Very pleased with the kit!

Been looking on Summit at McGaughy s kit but it suggest min rim size 17" I have 15" chrome smoothies.
So would the fit? Or would I be looking then at getting bigger rims?

Just did the same on my '64, and I bought all my parts from Early Classic Industries. I got the Moog front end parts and the 2.5 drop spindle kit and disk brakes. New stock springs in the front and their 4" drop springs for the rear have it sitting within a quarter inch of level. I am very happy with the parts and service and the look and feel of the truck as well. I added power steering at the same time, and love that too!

I ran 15" rims for a day or two with my McGaughy kit. It was a tight fit, but it did work. I went up to 18"s and obviously don't have an issue.
As for 15" steelies, I have no idea if it would work or not. I don't know the specs on the 15's I had other than they were cheap white rims.

Yes I have been looking at early classics.
They seem to be the guys to go with I'm just concerned that I still can't run my chromies with the kit?

I live in Central London UK, so the first 2 things I need to do are disc upgrade and power steering.
That then opens another can of worms as I have a 250 inline 6 and getting all the parts got that steering set up is proving difficult.
There seems to be a lot of info on the steering box change over but not the connecting and set up of the pump system on the engine( unless I'm looking in the wrong place)
And being in the Uk can't really good a searching around junk yards to accumulate the parts, so need the complete kit.
I was in Cali last May and wish I had brought all the parts needed, but I didn't own my truck then I've only had it 48hrs!.........

And loving it!

Probably love it even more with power steering : )

If you go with standard 12" rotors, you should be able to run 15" wheels as long as they are disc brake compatible. With the dropped spindles, sometimes the tip of the lower control arm interferes with the 15" wheels. The tip of the LCA can be trimmed some.

There is a seller on ebay that makes nice I6 power steering pump brackets as well as alternator and A/C

Due to the shipping issues in would use Summit. They ship pretty much daily to the uk, easy quick and reasonable rates. I just ordered a disk kit and dropped skindles from them, probably $20 more than the cheapest but about the same less than the most expensive.

If you have 6 lug wheels then check to make sure they are the disk version. The originals will not work with disks. If ordering the 12 disk then they will work with 15 wheels.

yes another C10 in UK, although i have just taken over its custodianship from the previous owner.
Its the USAF 66 Bagged C10

it looks the same but just in a different location!!

My Plans are - power steering (a must for London i feel as ill be knocking things outta the way instead of going round them) and as the fronts being done disk and brake conversion, not so neccesary as the drums are good and you don't get over 30mph anywhere here!!

i know R&R do a container but I'm not so worried about shipping, just about getting the order right otherwise its a long way to send it back and a long wait for the correct part.

just found out that its a 72 inline 6 250, so I'm assuming the other parts have to match the year of the engine not the truck?

I got my power steering pump bracket from Davis Speed, the vendor that Captainfab recommended. Also used Captainfab's steering box bracket. Both were top notch pieces and made the installation go well. My truck currently has the original 230 six.

Yes and no. You don't have to necessarily get parts for an exact year of engine. You just need to learn what year ranges include your engine. I'm not really versed on the I6's but I believe the 250 is basically the same from '66 thru about '74.

Thanks for your responses, I have checked out the brackets on eBay and I looks to be what I'm after, I'm more about practicality than originality so having the stock bracket or not I don't mind as long as it all works together!after getting under the hood and having a good look at the engine I have discovered .......

1. It's a 72 inline 6 250
2. It already has the double grooved pulleys

So here's what in thinking I need to complete

Mounting bracket for steering box, flange and tube/shaft (from yours truly) if you post internationally
Pump mounting bracket from David's speed

Then I need the following to complete .any ideas Where can I source the below?
P/S pump ? (Will the Saginaw P/S pump I've seen on eBay work?)
Hoses (feed and return)
V- belt
P/S steering box and pitman arm ( ideally fast ratio unit and what year should I be looking for, and where do I buy one)
Rag coupling joint (to suit said steering box)

Here is an Ebay auction, This one is for standard spindles, but I think I saw one of his other auctions where he had dropped spindles. I have never used this company, but he says he ships all over the world.
