81-87 Big Truck 5000rpm tach fuel gauge

So is there any rhyme or reason to what trucks may have a 5000rpm tach fuel gauge combo? I was in a truck salvage yard today and looked through probably 35 c50s, 60s, and 70s and couldn't find one 81-87 gasser 5000rpm tach. I did find 3 '73-'79 style and probably 5 '81-'87 4000rpm diesel tachs though.

I would really like to find one for my V3500 project.

Nate

Re: 81-87 Big Truck 5000rpm tach fuel gauge

I put one of the 7000 tach in my 82. Works great. Most of the factory tach I found did not work. There was problems with them. I figured I was better off getting one of these . Most wanted a arm and a leg for them and a good chance they did not work. Would have to send it off for repair. Plus the 7000 rpm works great with my ls2 swap.

Note, The black base is plastic. As you can see you can not tell the difference.

I know all about the GMSports tach. However that is not what I want in my crew. I was planning on sending the one I got out to have the solid state circut board installed anyway. I'm just wondering what dictates weather a truck got one or not. Is it just if it was ordered or not or something else?
