72 K20 bumper install help
****Bumper help please ****
Well, I didn't remove the bumpers, the original body shop did. I am having a hell of a time figuring out the brackets I have. Specifically, the outer front bumper brackets and the orientation of the rear step bumper brackets. On the rear, I only have one bolt that lines up on the frame. It should be two bolts according to the assembly manual. On the front both my outer brackets correspond to a slotted hole in the frame, but that only works on the passengers side. The steering box is in the way on the drivers side. Anybody have pics that could make this a little less of a guessing game? I would really appreciate it. Here are pics of what I have. rear stock option step bumper Brackets Hole for rear brackets Front brackets Hole for front brackets

Re: 72 K20 bumper install help
Not sure the front bumper brackets are correct for a 71-72 4wd. See pic in thread here as comparison: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=640956

Re: 72 K20 bumper install help
The caption on the first pic mentions rear stock option step - that shown in the pic isn't a factory option rear step bumper though. Based on what I recall from the rear steps I've had (stock and aftermarket) the downward pointing portion of the rear bracket with just the two holes affixes the bumper side, the other end of the bracket attaches to the frame. I had to drill new holes in the brackets for the one aftermarket I installed.

Re: 72 K20 bumper install help
Yeah the fronts assuming your using a factory 71-72 bumper should have brackets like this..
I believe they mount on the chassis the same as mine in the center top of the spring hanger.

Re: 72 K20 bumper install help
Thanks everybody for your comments and help. I have ordered front brackets for the bumper and I have been advised that what I thought were the front brackets
are indeed brackets for the rear. Chris
