I was just talking to a friend the other day about how the Internet and how it's globalization of economy has driven up the prices of everything. I buy a lot of old motorcycles and either part them out, or rebuild them and sell them. Now with Craigslist, it's really hard to get those barn/field finds anymore. The only time you come across them is from some really old person who doesn't have internet, or they are a total heap. I grew up in a very small town where everyone had an old car or two rotting in the field next to their barn, and the only way they got sold was if someone came and inquired about them. Now all people have to do is take a few pics, go on the Internet and find out what it's woth, then post it and wait for the phone to ring. And it's not just cars, furniture, antiques paintings, even "vintage" clothes. I used to get bikes for free all the time, now they all have come up in price.

Now the appraisal on my truck makes sense!! I could not believe the $65k replacement value but as the appraiser pointed out if the truck gets totalled you would need to start over with a new, straight, and rust free vehicle and then add all of the customizations, engine, tranny, air ride, etc etc. My grandfather bought this new for around $3k with a cabover on it he is rolling over in his grave.

Yep, also the internet and TV shows have created this newer broad base of interest which has driven the prices up as well. The fact is, most people into owning this stuff now don't know any better and just pay the money. Remember when we had no expectations of ever getting what we put into our rides back out? When a working man did it for pleasure and the white collars didn't understand?
