need help with rearend question about a c20 van
hey guys i need some help i have the chance to buy a posi trac rearend out of a 1993 c20 van 12 bolt posi gears are unknown i was told it is a 6x5.5 lug patter would this rearend fit under my truck and would i be able to swap in my ring and pinion gear so i can use my gear ratio?
and would it be worth 100 bucks for the whole housing or should i just buy the internals for my housing? i forgot to mention my truck is a 1982 gmc high sierra 400 sbc th350 203 transfer case with part time kit front end is a gm corporate 0 bolt 3.42 ratio rear end is a gm corporate 12 bolt limited slip 3.42 ratio Last edited by sev85; 12-10-2014 at 08:41 PM. |

It may be a 14 bolt. I'm pretty sure the 12 bolt was done by 82.

Re: need help with rearend question about a c20 van
ok i will have him send me a pic of the diff cover but i find it odd a 93 van would have a posi and a 12bolt
i am wanting to upgrade my 12 bolt rear as after looking at it i think it in reality is a open diff 12 bolt with 3.42 gears which im having issues destroying spider gears in my front and rear with 36 inch super swamper iroks but friday im downgrading to mickey thompson 35x12.50x15s for a great price im considering running lockright front and rear lockers to replace these troublesome spider gear issues as i use this truck on road as much as off road so the the lockers would be great in the mud but i do drive this truck to work any suggestions? besides selectable lockers for a grand a piece? |

I was told the van rear ends are wider,Measure your stock axle width and the spring perches and do the same on the van rear end.

Re: need help with rearend question about a c20 van
Also, in a van the drivetrain is offset to the right slightly, so the pumpkin is also offset to the right.
Why a van axle? Why not a squarebody axle? |

I have two of those vans. I repaired one rear then replaced it. The pumpkin isn't offset. The spring perches are definitely wider than the next gen trucks, but I didn't measure a square.

Re: need help with rearend question about a c20 van
figure out what gears are in the van.12 bolts have 3 carrier breaks. just buy the whole thing and take the posi out if its a 12 bolt. put your ring and pinion on and youll be ahead of the game.

Re: need help with rearend question about a c20 van
the reason im looking at a van 12 bolt posi is because i cant find a posi or locker from a square body reasonable enough to consider used instead of a new locker that i cant afford right now
