Re: How to decide Value/worth? '59 Fleetside (long post)

I see 55 - 6000. A completely restored fleet that everything works on, small back windows no trim nicely painted could be $9- 12000 but adding what you want to do with it can't factor into his selling price. It can factor into your buying price so that means you need a different truck other wise your selling price would be to high as well, I know we never intend to sell them but we always do.

Re: How to decide Value/worth? '59 Fleetside (long post)

Hey Guys- Thank you so much for your opinions, they mean a great deal to me. I am not too good with the computer and I didn't even realize that one could look up SOLD prices on ebay.....that helps a lot! Looks like I missed out on some good deals!

I do like the smooth lines of a fleetline, but perhaps this trucks asking price is too high. Roger1.....funny you should mention that you believe the truck is valued at $5,500.....that is exactly what I offered him the first time, but he rejected it. I'm thankful you guys were here to "bring me back to reality", the more I looked at the truck, the more I envisioned "what it could be" and not what it was.

For what it's worth, I have a '55 sedan that I just completed a 3 year body off resto on, did it all myself except the paint work and with the helpful advice of those on the Tri-Five forum (great group of enthusiast over there). Again, thank you.

Lastly, I've been watching the Mecum autions lately, and, with the exception of the Saturday night "big money" guys, I thought some of the restored trucks were right in the ball park or even a good deal on prices compared to how much it does cost to restore a vehical. Thanks again guys! If you have a lead for me on a 50-59 truck, PM me please.

Regards-
Tod

Thanks Guys!

Racing Junk is a good internet site to look for vehicles too.

Re: How to decide Value/worth? '59 Fleetside (long post)

hi neighbor
first look at where most of the people posting live: south, south west and northwest
i hate all of them, you may hate them too; i give you permission

the south, southwest and northwest is full of unmolested rust free bodies, they use no or little salt on their roads
not so here if the body is as rust free as claimed, it's well worth $8k plus around here
anything from here will be in sad shape, real sad shape...

but as others have said do a close inspection, crawl under and look at the cab corners, the brow over the headlights,
under floor mats, door hinge pockets, steps, rockers, front fenders, ect...
check too confirm that the suspension is really rebuilt; no slop in kingpins or spring shackles (jack it up)
if it is a cab off restoration as stated there should be no rust in those areas or any obvious misuse of filler...
i'd run from it screaming like a little girl

you already have a classic and know what's involved in rebuilding it
if you like what you see, buy it. nothing sexier than a yellow 4 eyed beauty in my mind
you probably won't find better around here and might be worth a $2k premium over buying sight unseen off of ebay

i brought my truck with me from NC originally from arkansas and ended up replacing cab corners, floors, steps and rockers
stop by... i'm in detroit metro area, northville

This '56 was for sale a year ago. The guy wanted $12,000 and said he wouldn't take less than $10,000. He never sold it

Re: How to decide Value/worth? '59 Fleetside (long post)

Same here. I actually came across this truck last summer 2013 right after I bought my '57... I wanted to compare what I got and paid with this one . The guy I bought my truck from was the perfect scenario . Wealthy guy who didn't need the money and just wanted to sell some of his collection . He was also selling a 1968 bug in great shape for $5000.00.

Re: How to decide Value/worth? '59 Fleetside (long post)

Maybe us West Coast guys are lucky but I think the real market is still good. The imaginary market due to TV shows though is growing so you have to make sure you are in the right market lol

Like our '57 GMC was a good buy but still needs work. If it didn't it'd be a $25-30g truck up here. We paid $8400USD. Came with a 383 with 20k on it, 3spd auto and '68 Camaro posi rear with Heidts SuperRide Coilover frontend. Brake to brake that frontend is $4gs I believe. Engine and built tranny were probably $5gs. '68 Camaro rear and totally redo of the stck frame was probably $2gs+ for labour. OK paint job but rust free for the most part 1" hole on passenger step that's it. It'll be blown apart and redone anyways. Came with Cragar SS rims so we swapped them out for some 18/20" Foose Legends and put a new carb on it. It'd been mainly sitting for 15 years after getting built so needed a bit of TLC. It was the summer time daily driver this year and will be next year after aibags and repaint. It's not perfect by any stretch for but for us and up here it was a great deal and I watch this market everyday lol

In the end don't get caught up on just one truck. There are a ton of these trucks out there getting built and sold cheap after all the hard work and expense has been dealt with.

Well said.

Nice truck and it really looks like you got a lot for the money on that one.
