you really don't know what your rust situation is until you start removing it, I like to give it a one two punch, that means using both abrasives like sand paper or wire wheels, and chemicals like Etch n Prep Phosphoric acid from Home Depot $5 bucks a gallon (use in full strength not diluted) after you remove all loose rust with wire wheel good luck, shoot us some progress pictures see how I tackled my floors in this post http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=645440&page=3 |

You're absolutely right Gregski. Looks like there's a lot of good steel left, and amen on the angle grinder. Posted from my phone don't know how to quote.

Re: How bad is this?
There goes my seat cover and carpet kit money $219 for the welder kit, $50 for the cart and I got a $50 gift card out of the deal. I really wanted the Hobart handler 140 but I didn't want to cancel my kids Christmas this year what's that old saying "learn to weld with a cheap welder and you can weld anything" .....it's not an old saying I just made it up to make me feel better

Re: How bad is this?
for over a hundred dollars less I got a Lincoln one at home depot I think it was a 140 series I am told that the lincolns or the millers are the best welders to buy

Re: How bad is this?
You where told correctly. My family owns a steel fab shop and we have a crap load of welders (i lost track lol) all but one are lincoln and the other is a miller. Never a problem with any except for the lincoln comander 400 diesel powered welder which a mouse got into. That got replaced with a lincoln vantage 400 diesel powered welder.

Flux core will work. Won't be pretty as said, but don't let that scare you off. You know ahead of time that you'll need to do weld clean up on it. And if you need to work outside, you won't be blowing your gas away in the breeze.
