Maybe carb tuning

Sbc350 with Holley 4 barrel, when I rev the engine a few times the revs then drop right down very low sometimes it stalls. If I touch the throttle again it'll cut out. If it is carburettor adjustment, what do I adjust? Thanks

Re: Maybe carb tuning

Make sure the carb is clean inside.

I had never touched one and last spring I tore down my Edlebrock and cleaned it by soaking in red grapefruit juice overnight.

Rinsed with water, blew it out with air, replaced the floats and set them precisely.

Works awesome!

Good luck!

Re: Maybe carb tuning

I have a love hate relationship with Holleys. Run great at speed or for racing, always seemed to develop idle, off-idle issues like you describe. Might be a blown power valve??? I am now back to pre electronic Q jets....

Re: Maybe carb tuning

Today I got the truck out of the lockup. I started it up & drove it out but when I used the brakes the engine died. Restarted & when I put shifter into reverse it died again. I managed to get it pushed back into lockup & started it up again & it was in gear! That shouldn't have happened as I've fitted the cut out to stop that from happening. I have less than 5 on my vacuum gauge

Really, grapefruit juice??? I don't mean that in a nasty way, I have just never heard of that before. It really does work? My Edelbrock carb is pretty filthy and tried shooting some carb cleaner in there while it was running. It worked ok, but still it's pretty bad. Do you have to tear the whole thing apart? I suppose you would in order to get all the juice out of it. Not knowing much about carbs, is it really a difficult task to tear it apart and put it back together?

Yep, I had used Ruby Grapefruit Juice (what it is called in the store) for motorcycle carbs previously and it worked without any harm.

Yes, you need to plan on a complete dis-assembly to do it properly.

You can dispose of it in your wife's flower garden!
