Got my wheels yesterday!

A friend had a vintage set of ET turbines I picked up yesterday. I love the look - big change from the 19s and 20s everyone runs today, but I think it matches the retro style we're going for. Now to choose tires. And start in on everything else.

Nice! White letter T/A's would go with the retro look.

Nice wheels! I keep the white letters on the inside. I like black walls out on these trucks.

Thanks! Debating now whether to leave them crusty or powder coat.

Personally I like Hammerite. Good protection from rust and crust, but still gives that weathered/beater look.

Re: Got my wheels yesterday!

We decided on powder coat with 30% gloss. Found new uni-lug washers on eBay and got the tires mounted yesterday. I love how it came out. I'm taking two leaves out of the rear springs hoping that levels things out with the two inch drop spindles. Hopefully when we swap the 351 for the 327 I don't lose all of the front drop.

If you are referring to weight difference, altho' I've not measured them or read specs on their weights, I'd bet a 6-pack would even those 2 things out!

Re: Got my wheels yesterday!

X2.....they're heavier than a big block Chevy. Sorry to say but your front is going to come up a bit with the change to the small block.

Thanks for all the positive comments - keeps me going as I dig into more rust.

I've read as much as 400 pound difference b/w big block 6 and SBC. Be good to get the weight off the nose even if I lose some drop!

Re: Got my wheels yesterday!

Today we hit a milestone - the GMC is back on it's own feet! Got the Dana44 axles drilled to 5-bolt (thanks to Axleboy). Took me five tries to find studs that match the front, were the right length and knurl. Just needs body work and a motor. It's got a pretty good rake with two leaves out of the back and a 2" drop up front. With the swap from the big block V6 to 327 the front should come up an inch and help level it out some.

Man, those look great on there. I also like the black out vs white lettering out. Great look.
