A gasser themed build sounds cool to me. I put a dropped tube axle in my '66 Mustang. Still have a lot to do before it runs but I think the car will be a lot of fun. A tube or beam axle can really open up an engine compartment. The Mustang can now swallow a big block with room to spare.

Another possibility would be pro touring. As large as the 47s are that approach would give you a very usable and potentially comfortable car.
