Cost for 4.8/4L60E/ECU/harness? What else do I need?

I found a 4.8/4L60E with accessories, ECU, harness.

The guy posted it for $800obo, it's less than an hour each way. Around here, that seems to be a pretty good deal.

What else would I need? Any specialized tools? I know I'd need engine mounts, I imagine tranny mount, likely a new driveshaft. How much wiring stuff?

Thanks for any advice.

What years require a new pedal? He has all of the accessories for it.

A drive by wire throttle body would require a new pedal; a cable operated one would not. You can fit the cable operated throttle to a drive by wire engine; that's what I did.

That's a good deal, I paid $1000 for mine and had to drive to Sac. If you can get the drive shaft yoke that would be helpful. I had to get trailblazer ss exhaust manifolds for my swap, but i found a pair used for a decent price. Good luck.

Re: Cost for 4.8/4L60E/ECU/harness? What else do I need?

The guy is in Dixon, so not horribly far (although farther than I've taken the truck on the freeway... 4.10s, 30.5" tires, and TH350 mean it screams even at 55-60). I'll probably head up there this weekend. He claims he pulled it himself to do a swap on something he has and never got around to it, so I'm hoping he pulled everything.

Is there anything wrong with using his accessories (alt, ps)? How about AC, what would it take to make the new compressor work with my factory condensor/evaperator?

Re: Cost for 4.8/4L60E/ECU/harness? What else do I need?

I am using all the accessories on my donor engine. I had to pull the old valve on the p/s pump and install it on the new p/s pump to adapt the p/s line pressure line. The a/c would not fit on my 76 and I had to remove it.

Are there any 4.8/5.3 engines that I should stay away from? If so, how do I tell? I'd rather not get a bad engine (he claims it's good but you know how it goes).

How much work is swapping the valve? What happens if you don't?

5-10 years ago that would have been a pretty steep price, but now....that's actually pretty decent.

I've had good luck with all of my junkyard engines. They are pretty durable. Change the oil, clean it up, and let er rip.

There were a few iron headed engines; if you run into one of those, I'd hold out for an aluminum headed one. These only seem to have been made from 1999-2000, IIRC.

And they were ONLY 6.0L engines. No other LS engine other than the very early LQ4 came with iron heads.

Re: Cost for 4.8/4L60E/ECU/harness? What else do I need?

The valve for the p/s is an easy swap, its needed so you can use the factory p/s line on the 76 c10 and simply threaded it into the donor pump with the original valve. Its not totally necessary, if you want to go get a custom p/s line made with fitting and adapters, that works as well. I am "frugal", so this was less expensive.

I'm pretty sure it's $20 for 75 minutes, not all day. What does that have to do with this? I'm not gonna steal the engine out of one, or let the truck get "stolen" etc

Pretty sure this is what Clyde was referring to, I don't think he was implying you rent a truck and take the engine! Would make it pretty hard to return I would think.

Haha, yeah I think he's saying rent the truck to pick up the engine...

Uhaul has a $19.99 pickup truck for the day.

Uhaul charges mileage that makes it pretty damn expensive.

I can deal with the 60-65 miles each way, it'll just be slower than if I was in something modern.
