Bucket seat armrest replacement?

I have an 87 R20 Suburban with the stock front bucket seats.
All four armrest are shot, all the padding/foam has deteriorated over the years.
Is there a source for new armrests or replacement covers that have the correct foam inserts?

Could the arm rest covers be reused if you took them off and cleaned them up? You've got the tan interior in your truck don't you? Reason I ask, I don't think they're reproduced, I've never seen them. But if you could take them off and clean the covers, you could re-wrap the arms with foam and pull your covers back on.

Re: Bucket seat armrest replacement?

The covers are ok, a little dirty.
Thought about throwing them in the wash machine sometime to clean them up.
The foam is gone, like vinyl/velour bags over a hard plastic frame. Thought about using foam, but not sure what to get and not confident to make four of them when I really am not sure how to do something like this in the first place.

Re: Bucket seat armrest replacement?

Just go buy some upholstery foam at a sewing store and contact cement from a hardware store. It's pretty cheap and there are lots of tutorials on you tube. Trial and error doesn't cost much on a small job like the armrests. Just make sure the contact cement is compatible with the foam type you bought.

....and an electric knife really helps when trimming the foam.

Re: Bucket seat armrest replacement?

I would do a trial fit on them without the glue. It may not be needed if you cut the foam slightly oversize so the covers fit tight. You can add it afterward if needed.

The glue can also be used to bond sheet foam to other sheets to build complex shapes. I agree with John though and would not glue them to the skeleton until you are sure of the fit.
