Drum brake drop spindles - Disk conversion?
One of my 68 c10's has Drum brakes and 2" drop spindles.
Is there a way to convert to 6 lug disk brakes using the drum spindles? |

Re: Drum brake drop spindles - Disk conversion?
No one makes a drum drop spindle to my knowledge. Pics of this setup please.
I think Speedway motors has a setup that uses the drum spindles but smaller passenger car brakes and the 4 3/4" bolt pattern. The way to do this correctly is to replace the spindles and use truck brake parts. And yes, you can keep the 6 lug pattern if you want. I just converted my truck to 5 because the wheel choices are so much better. For me it was worth the trouble and expense. Early Classic Enterprises has 6 lug disc conversion kits as well as 5. Good company to work with that makes good parts.

Re: Drum brake drop spindles - Disk conversion?
I've been around these trucks a long time and haven't seen one. Please post pics. I've seen some home-built spindles (cut and welded) but no production ones.

actually scarebird makes a kit that adapts the 88 up light duty 3/4 ton 6 lug rotors and calipers to the stock drum spindle. the kit sells for around $200 not including the rotors, calipers and hoses. I looked into it before I bought cpp drop spindles and 6 lug rotors

Do you have a clearer closeup shot? I've seen some before, but they were all cut and welded and I can't see any details in that one.

Maybe, they were made in the 70's or 80's?, I don't know. But THEY DO EXIST Maybe, since they're [apparently] the only pair in existence, I'll donate them to the Smithsonian. |

Greasy Harley - great to see another Idaho member. As for the spindles, you can donate them to me lol.

Re: Drum brake drop spindles - Disk conversion?
Interesting. We do need a clear picture. If they're not welded but cast one piece some small shop must have made a small amount. No one has ever made reference to those that I'm aware of. And they don't exist in any one's current production or availability. You may have one of a very, very few ever made.
As far as your 6 lug desire, you should be able to bolt up a bracket kit that fits drum spindles, or buy the readily available drop spindles and use the special made 6 lug rotors instead of the 5 lug version. If you can post a clear picture of those. The drop is the distance from where the upper anchor bolt should be to where it's located now, looks like it might be closer to 3"?
