Hood alignment help
I just finished installing all the sheet metal on the front of my 69 C20. So new cab mounts and door hinge pins and everything lines up perfectly except the hood. The problem is that it is way to far over to the left.
On the left at both the front and rear it is touching the finder and on the right it has a very large gap. At the front center line it does not line up to the grill and is clearly shifted to the left. I cant see this being a fender issue, and there are no adjustments on the hood to go left or right, only front to back and up or down. Here are the photos and what they are. Left rear Left front Right rear right front Maybe some one can see something I am missing and suggest something.

Re: Hood alignment help
Maybe unbolt your core support and try shifting it to the right side. That's what I would try first. Just my guess.

Maybe just loosen everything and try to shift it all around? Its just hard to gage the gap at the rear if I do that as I have to remove the cowl to loosen the fenders.

Re: Hood alignment help
Did you figure out how to fix this? While searching for a fix for mine it seems like huge gap on the passenger front hood to fender is a common problem

Re: Hood alignment help
I had the same problem and I figured out that I had a bent left driver's side hinge.I have 2 donor trucks so I replaced the hinge and it lined up perfect.
You can also muscle it if you have a strong buddy if you push straight across using the left back corner of the hood and bend the hinge towards the passenger side. Parts stores have 1/16 and 1/8 inch shims that you could use on the hinge where it bolts to the fender as a last resort also, good luck. |

Re: Hood alignment help
My biggest problem is the huge gap at the front between the fender and the hood. I think I may have figured out the problem. I measured the fender (repro) like so and found out that it is 1/8" short of metal compared to the repro on the drivers side. Searching the forum leads to a couple of other people with the same problem.

Re: Hood alignment help
I have spent hours aligning hood to fenders to doors. I found I begin with the doors. Make sure they shut right and the gaps to the drip rail and cab post are right. Then I get the fender to door gap correct so when the doors open they don't hit the fenders. 1/4" is what I shoot for. The back of the hood has been a big problem for me. To align the hood with the vent cowl and fenders, I have had to "over size" the hood hinge holes using a step dill and use larger flat washers to get the back of the hood down. Shim the fenders at door with hood in place and check hood side clearance using oversized hinge holes. Then adjust the stops so that hood doesn't close too tight at grill. Many hours fooling with hood/fender/door alignment issues. Very Frustrating. Good Luck.
