Thanks Larry |

Re: Inner fenders
Actually 1960-1961 and early 1962 were different in that the hood hinge spring bracket was smaller and riveted on, where as the 1963-1966 has a slightly bigger stamped steel bracket spot welded on. Minor differences.
Heres one from a 1961 Heres one from a 1966

Re: Inner fenders
What do you suppose was the reason for the hinge spring bracket change? Did the early trucks have a tendency to tear out the bracket?

"Actually 1960-1961 and early 1962" maybe it had something to do with the hood change as well..? just try to keep them in pairs! I had a good set picked out for my sub until I noticed that I had one early and one late!

Re: Inner fenders
The bolt holes line up no problem.
I made a mistake while looking for a replacement and now have an early one for the driver side and the later (correct) for the passenger side of my 66. Back on the hunt as my OCD will not allow mixing!

Re: Inner fenders
That is interesting. My 62 has the later style inner fenders. Makes me wonder what the p.o. did.

Re: Inner fenders
Ok this is interesting from Glen Mitchell Collision Estimator
Different part number for GMC with power steering for LEFT fender skirt 63-66. 60-62 shared same part number as 63-66 with manual steering Same part number from 60-66 for RIGHT fender skirt In the 58-70 parts book. NO PART NUMBER CHANGE FROM 60-66, left and right, and no mention of power steering difference. So I think they were suggesting to use the later model for replacement after they ran out of earlier models. Have to dig into some earlier parts books for possible different part numbers before they were superceded. Looked into GMPartsWiki 1960 truck parts book lists a different earlier Chevrolet part number than the 1970 book for left and right.

Re: Inner fenders
The true GMC inner fenders and the "Power Steering" GMC only inner fenders came 1) in a glossier black paint and 2) a true PS inner fender was pre punched for the PS hose to pass through . I've only found one NOS GMC PS inner fender , and few other NOS GMC black metal parts with the glossier paint.

Re: Inner fenders
Look in a 1962 printing Aero, 1960-1962 3757532 + 3786969 the 1963 up 3816857-58 . In the early drawings they show the "bracket" for 1960-1962 hood spring as a separate part but no part number.

Re: Inner fenders
Ok earlier exploded view shows the Bracket NL ( not listed ) separated from the skirt.
Chevrolet part numbers usually start with a 3 and GMC with a 2. Chevrolet used odd and even numbers to pair left and right parts. Left always odd numbers. Right even. P&A is Parts and Accessories. The 1959 P&A 31S Parts Book: 1960 C10-40 3757431 left 3757432 right 1962 P&A 30 1960-62 C10-40 3786969 left ( something changes in the tooling or design for 62 ) (( effective 4-61, during 62 production )) ((( something unique for late 62? But different from 63! ))) 3757432 right ( listed same as in the 59 parts book ) 1962 P&A 30 1963 C10-30 ( 40 series discontinued ) (( new part created, part number changes)) 3816857 Left 3816858 Right 1970 705A 1960-66 C10-30 same as 1963 production year. used to replace 60-66 production years.

Re: Inner fenders
Excellent research Norm ! Now I think we need to rally the 1962 stockers to see if we can find that difference to document it. Could be as small as a bolt hole . I will see if I can get to that GMC inner fender and get the part number and pictures,

Re: Inner fenders
What always seems like a simple question, allows us to delve deeper into really what really went on.
I just looked into a 63 Chevrolet Master Parts Book I have at the cottage. I've been working with the flu this week, it's 15 degrees F here and I'm going through books I didn't even know I had. No mention what so ever of the earlier skirts. Same situation in a 65 Master Parts Book, no mention of the earlier part numbers.

Re: Inner fenders
GMCs , lots of different numbers for inner fenders.
2418559 LH J+N Series= 1960-1962 10-30 says it replaces 3757431 2396252 J+N Series 10-30 =1960-1962 2434373 With PS J series =1962 2441395 F+G series G=1963 and F 1964-1966 2446450 F+G series G=1963 and F 1964-1966 2441394 PS G Series 1964-1966 For GMC only now, in 1962 the difference from 2434373 to 2441394 PS inner fenders is the routing of the headlight harness . It had three holes running across, front to back, for the wire to clip into with those plastic push in clips in the harness . Heres a 1962 GMC PS Inner fender. Then heres the NOS 2441394 PS inner fender , no holes for the 1962 headlight harness. Some other reasons GMC had different part numbers was because the Voltage regulator was mounted to the passenger side inner fender therefor received different holes punched and like I mentioned earlier the paint was glossier than a Chevy.

Re: Inner fenders
So GMC had power steering in 62 as Chevrolet introduced it in 63 light duty trucks?

Re: Inner fenders
Yes sir, the main components that are different than 1963-1966 are the center link and the bracket for the frame. It was made to fit the 60-1962 torsion bar boxed frames .
