58 Cab Trim with Double Back Tape?

Has anyone had success with installing their stainless cab and door trim with 3m double backed tape? I just opened the trim kit I got from the Truck Shop and noticed the clips are a joke, very stiff and off center.

I would think taping it on with a good quality product would be much easier and less likely to scratch things up on the install.

Thanks B.A. I read that thread earlier today about clips. Looks like the clips that come with the trim kits don't work and other clips are available that seem to work better.

I'm still wanting some feedback on guys who have used the 3m tape instead of clips. Anyone?

i use the 3m tape for lots of applications on truck, the shop buys 100 ft rolls of it for body kits and accessories
anytime you need a permanent attachment with tape it is important to use the primer/activator first
but... you need a flat surface to attach it; isn't the trim C shaped with an open back?

Can someone post a close up pic of the "good" clips? I have a set of that trim and a package of wire clips that I got with it and I'd like to see if there's any difference. I don't think the ones from Classic Parts look exactly like mine but can't see them well enough to be sure.

First pic is the original clip. Next pic shows clip that came with kit, notice that it's off-center.

I filled the trim channel with some plumbers putty, pressed it into place and measured to see the exact thickness I would need for the double back tape. It measured .170. I will either have to fill the channel with something or double up the tape to make it work.

It's not wide enough to stay in the track and it falls out. Ridiculous. What's the matter with these parts suppliers...you have to screw with everything to make things work.

Agree went thru 3 head light switches on my74 before i got 1 that dimmed.

I would not be as bad if the clips just "didn't work", but because they look like the originals, more often than not a guy will try and make them work and end up denting his new chrome too. Classicparts is just repackaging a widely available Auveco 1256 fastener that you can buy off amazon for under $10 for a box. I compared them side by side and they are identical.

i trimmed down the length of the aftermarket ones, they are too long and bottom out before they seat the trim. Also i took a pair of needle-nose pliers and sprung the base out so they would actually fit inside the trim channel. I still prefer using the original ones though.
