U01 Marker Lamps question: puck vs fireman
Quick question, just want to confirm - the hockey puck and fireman's hat marker lamps DO both mount to the exact same round mounting pads on a marker lamp cab, correct? If one were to, say, want to convert from a hockey puck lamp arrangement to a fireman's hat, it's just a matter of replacing the amber lens as long as it's an original U01 cab, right? Hockey pucks aren't that common, always thought they were more of a 1-ton thing, but have seen them on 10s and 20s. Anyhoo - pretty certain the answer is yes, but just wanted to ask anyone who has had a cab like this and actually done the lens swap. I have a set of fireman's hats, and they are round base - so am assuming it's a 1-1 swap. From what I've seen, it appears both types have two hold-down screws that mount on either side - thus my assumption. Am also assuming they both use the same rubber seal/gasket(?)
Thanks! |

Re: U01 Marker Lamps question: puck vs fireman
Hockey pucks are 69 only and I believe they were switched to fireman's style late in 69. If you have a set of hockey pucks for sale let me know. I have 4 good ones and would like to find one more to complete my set. Also I'm almost positive Napa stores sell replacement fireman's style lenses. Probably not correct part number but look identical

Here is a thread I posted about converting the Harley turn signal lenses to work on the "hockey puck" roof pads. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=598129 LockDoc

Re: U01 Marker Lamps question: puck vs fireman
thanks all. Trevor, thanks for confirming they are the same lens mounting, appreciate it.
Leon, I never even thought of that - good idea. 68350, I don't have any, but looking at a truck that has an incomplete set also! Ha. Then we'd BOTH be looking for a couple... Well, not sure how serious I'm looking at it, if I win the lottery between now and next week, it's a SURE THING! Did not realize it was a 69 thing. Thanks for elaborating - so, I see both were available, but 69 was the only year you could get pucks(?) Thanks again for the help guys. |

Re: U01 Marker Lamps question: puck vs fireman
Yeah 69 was only year for pucks. And like I said I believe the switched to fireman style late in the year and then pucks were done.

Re: U01 Marker Lamps question: puck vs fireman
'69 was the first year for mandated clearance lamps, so first year GM made special roof panel using the round all plastic lights. They started out with "Hockey Puck" but changed to "fireman's helmet", So one year only for the puck style.
