OMG! Seen two nice 81+ front clips in the JUNKYARD!!
Shyeah. So, I was hauling off our old water heater tonight to the scrap yard...and I pull in and drop it off, and what do I see??? None other than TWO 81+ cab/front clips. Upon closer inspection, they're 100% solid, no rust!! Both are completely assembled. But nothing else was there besides the core support/fenders/cab. Amazing what some people will throw away isn't it? I MAY go back and see if I can't score one of them, and then swap it on mine and do the 88-91 Burb front grille swap...dunno though, I kinda like the original 75 grille, as it says "350" in it.
Dunno though, cuz the place is a SCRAP yard..not a wrecking yard, who knows, maybe they'll give the parts for FREE... |

Take 'em both if you've got extra free space, i bet you could use one of them, sell the other and buy all the parts for the 89-91 conversion without having to spend any money. That is, if they're free...

I guarantee they won't be free, and I bet you aren't the first person to see those and possibly inquire about them.
Doesn't hurt to check though. I would keep your original front end...looks better than the cheesey 81+ j/k guys

Nah. Keep the original 73-80 front end. It looks way more classic.

Tim, kind of off topic, but how do you know your truck only weighs 3650 pounds? These trucks tip the scales above 4600 pounds (2wd shortbeds).

Bigblock73, my C-10's title says it weighs 1980kgs (4400lbs), that was with the 350 olds diesel, TH400, 12 bolt rear, 6 leaf rear, hydroboost, no power anything, no tilt wheel, no headliner, single tank, dual battery, short fleetside bed. These trucks were weighed at the customs inspection upon arriving here, before the dealership registered them, so i believe it to be somewhat correct.
If i had to guess, an otherwise identical truck with a chevy sb, th350, single battery, vacuum brakes could get as low as 3900-3800?

how about this one?
76 Big 10 2wd stepside w/454...4320 pounds. Take off 200 or so for the BB and it is still above 4000..and it is a stepside (lighter).

OK, item #3...my trusty GM 1976 Light duty truck sales album..
c-10 swb V8, 3803...3645 with a 6 cylinder. It sounds like the dealers album may be correct, especially if Tim weighed his truck three times...but then again, he thought he had a th350...then a th400...then a th350... I will assume the magazine articles are incorrect.

Jeff,
I weighed my truck at the county landfill back in 1999. It weighed 3960 pounds with me not in it. I don't remember how much gas was in it. This was after I had removed the AC stuff. Of course I didn't have my aluminum wheels, still had the steel ralleys on it. I need to weigh it now. I figure it will be around 3900 pounds or less. I don't think Tim's truck ever had AC and it also don't have a tailgate. So since the AC cabs are much heavier and the tailgate, I would say his listed weight is pretty close. I believe I'll go by and weigh it again tomorrow if I don't forget.

i weighed my 82 C10 LWB with me and a buddy in it, just like Mike, at the landfill, and it tipped the scales at 4600.
