K20 10 Bolt 8 Lug Help

I am trying to tear down this axle and I ran into an issue. After I removed the locking hubs there is a sleeve in the hub that doesn't seem to be removable and it is blocking the spanner nut. The axle is from a '78 K20 and has internal hubs. I attached a picture of what I am talking about. Any help?

Clean off the grease and I suspect you will find a snap ring to be removed.

Re: K20 10 Bolt 8 Lug Help

there is a snap ring rite there that needs to be taken off reach around the backside of the axleshaft and it will push back to you and you see it also there is a tab that needs to be bent up so your socket will go over it

Re: K20 10 Bolt 8 Lug Help

OK, I cleaned off all the grease. The pic in post #1 the outer locking nut is loose and is over this ring. On the other side, it is all tightened down properly and I think I see the snap ring but if that is it, it won't budge. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Here is pic of side with outer locking ring loosened and a pic of the side where all nuts/rings are tightened down.

Please take a look at this crude Paint creation. Is the red arrow the snap ring you are speaking of the remove the sleeve that the blue arrow is pointing to? If where the red arrow is is the snap ring then I can't get it to budge. Thanks!

Does the whole ring with all the teeth on it just pull out or were you referring to the smooth ring on the inside of that (somewhat resembles a bearing race)?

Re: K20 10 Bolt 8 Lug Help

I am having a hell of a time figuring out how to get this hub/rotor off. I understand the principal and how to remove the axle nuts but I cant get this ring out (I believe it is called a clutch ring or axle sleeve?). There also appears to be a washer or some type of snap ring that is frozen on the axle shaft itself. In pics above, blue arrow is the "ring" and red arrow is the "snap ring." Anyone have any ideas? Maybe I should ask the mods to move this thread to 4X4 or suspension sections.

The red arrow you have pointing the spindle. It stays in place.

The blue arrow is part of the locking hub. It should just pull out.

You seem to be pointing at the hub snap ring which it appears mv has already removed. Thats #7 in the above diagram.

Thanks for the help everyone. I feel stupid!

So I should just be able to reach behind this geared ring (makes sense now that I know it is part of the locking hub) and pull it out?
Just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing.
