1980 Chevy Sport on Ebay

Interesting listing on Ebay....listed as a Chevy Sport 1 owner ...even shows the SPID ...which is correct...but the truck is a long wheelbase.
So at least the box and frame did not come with the truck from the factory(ALL Chevy Sports were short beds)
Our trucks have been out there for a long time now ...so it is not surprising to see them get a bit mixed up.Just shows you need to check and do research...just because it has only had one owner does not mean it is correct.

Wheelbase on the original SPID shows 117.5", which is a short bed. This truck is someone's creation, even if it is really nice.

No mention of 4x4 on the SPID either, and it has factory auto-locking hubs - I don't think those were available in 1980.

On second look, they're probably aftermarket manual hubs.

4x4 is shown within the model number CK10703:

C = Chevrolet
K = 4x4
107 = 1/2 ton swb
03 = reg cab pick up

10 4. I thought the 4x4's listed the transfer case on the SPID. My bad.

Re: 1980 Chevy Sport on Ebay

I contacted the seller in the nicest way that I knew how explaining that they never made long bed sport trucks and that the glove box SPID showed a short wheelbase. This is the response I received. Sounds pretty shady.
Dear azpartslocators,

not sure whats going on .. i just know i bought the truck from the original owner and he has a picture of the truck sitting in the showroom just the way you see it .... lee

Would love to see that picture. Not to call BS, but maybe there was some weird one-off that a dealer did?

Wonder if the VIN on the SPID and the VIN in the windshield match....
Junkyard glovebox SPID and a sport paintjob?

The VIN on the warranty information matches the VIN on the SPID.

If a person was really serious they could send the VIN (and $50) to the Heritage Center and get the original invoice. My bet would be that it would say short wheelbase though since the SPID, window sticker, invoice and build manifests all draw their info from the same database.

Beanm or they had to replace the cab and used one from a sport and painted the truck up to pass it off as one.

Re: 1980 Chevy Sport on Ebay

Since I was in the Flint plant in 1980 I may have seen this one go by (...or - the swb version of it)!

I have mentioned before - I saw these Sport Trucks and really wanted one. I was especially drawn to the painted bumpers with the black impact strip.

But I think the multicolor stripes were too much for me, so I ended up getting this one instead. I think you can see the "Sport Truck" theme, less the stripes.

Re: 1980 Chevy Sport on Ebay

Looks like it had a reserve of $10,500, which was not met.

Looking at the pictures I noticed that it doesn't have the Sport hood ornament.
Did find this though.

I wouldn't say they are rare as much as harder to come by.

That truck should be a short bed that looks like mine, but mine is a stepside.

I see the band difference, but how can you tell the gate is different?
