Keith Seymore can I pick your brain for a second?
Not sure if this would be something that you would know about or have heard of........
But a gentleman in another group says that he works for a towing company and they have had 15-20 squares in storage since the 80s for GM. says that they were part of the "fuel tank thing". He also says that not one of the trucks has over 5000 miles on them and the storeage bill is up to date.......... What the......have you ever heard of them doing something like this and paying the storage forever?? Oh.... and none of them have been registered either..... |

I saw that too and I'm curious if it is true.

Re: Keith Seymore can I pick your brain for a second?
Looks like a bunch of re painted trucks to me. The white one and yellow one look to have had repaints ( the tailgate letters are not painted white or black any more, usually the first sign of a repaint). And one has an incorrect grill/headlight bezel combo.

Awesome scene, but a shame to see ceiling tiles fallen on them and plastic bins resting on top of them.
Looks like a neglected personal space.

Re: Keith Seymore can I pick your brain for a second?
Im curious to know......did trucks deemed for commercial/fleet use come without the letters painted on the tailgate since a lot of them were having the beds pulled off.......

Re: Keith Seymore can I pick your brain for a second?
The tan colored truck in the bottom picture looks like it has a 83-84 grille with 85-87 headlight bezels?

The fleet would also have the option of ordering a chassis cab (so that the vehicle would be built with no bed, if that was to their advantage). K

In my day, vehicles that were kept due to litigation were stored at the Milford Proving Ground. They were normally tagged with a specific case number, retention period, kept in order and covered (from prying eyes - like mine, I suppose). Very rigorous storage, preservation and tracking for the duration of the retention period (10 year, 25 years, whatever was designated, typically not "forever"). Vehicles and paperwork are disposed of as soon as the retention period expires, in keeping with our Information Management policy. Additionally, if we had gathered up customer trucks as representative data samples they might have low mileage (that would be optimal) but they would have been registered and plated for customer use at one time. This looks a bit too willy nilly for my comfort zone. Unfortunately, the one person I could ask who would know is no longer here. K

Re: Keith Seymore can I pick your brain for a second?
I don't understand why they wouldn't have been released once that BS was disproved. I was going to comment that maybe the repainted trucks were results of the rust warranty where GM put new bedsides on. Not sure about tailgates getting replaced or whether some shops may have gone ahead and shot them to match. But, I just don't believe the story and there are other things that give doubt
