Rear air bags
Hello,
I have a 72 3/4 ton 4x4 and I need air bags for the rear, however everybody is telling me that no one makes them for my year. I would think there would be an aplication out there that could work on my truck. (Help please) thanks steve Last edited by 72-396; 02-03-2004 at 04:26 PM. |

Are you asking about bags to lift the truck or load leveling bags?

I don't see why you couldn't use a set of universal rear mounts, weld the uppers to the frame & the lowers to the axle tube.Try www.***************** You can call Jason up and explain to him what you want to do and he will hook you up with the right stuff.
You could use a Firestone sleevebag or a 2500# bag. You can find them on Ebay. For a cheap compressor, look in the Cadillacs(87-9 Fleetwood FWD is one)for the loadleveling compressor. Should find it in the local Upullit for approx $10-$15. You can get tanks either new on ebay(if just using it for load leveling, use a 1 or 2 gal tank) or go to a heavy truck salvage yard. I can pick up used steel 5-6 gal tanks for like $5 ea. Home Depot gas ball valves make great cheap manual valves. 1/4 to 3/8 valves, line, bags should be fine. You don't need 1/2".....

I would think the 73 & up firestone load level kit would fit with a little work.Drill holes for the upper bracket and maybe make a new bracket that bolts to the u-bolts depending on if you have a lift or not. Most any weld/metal shop should be able to make-up what you need.

I want to use firestone bags, however on a 72 there is only 2 3/4
inches space from the frame to the center of the spring and most bags are 7 inches wide thanks for all your help see ya Last edited by 72-396; 02-03-2004 at 06:48 PM. |

The firestone riderite kits are made to set over your axle, bolted to the u-bolts.You would need a u-bolt flip on a 72.The upper bracket bolts to the outside of the frame. The air spring rides outside of the frame, not between the frame and axle.
