So how common are steel wheels that have a 5 x 4.75 lug spacing similar looking to the original wheels? I know I could just get spacers that go from 5x 4.75 to 6 lug and use my original wheels but they are like over 200 dollars for a set. Am I gonna have to bite the bullet? I also could just buy wheel vintiques smoothies for like 250 for a set but I'm trying to spend less on wheels so I can get the WW's I want.

They are a very common wheel. Most of the big cars used the 4.75 bolt pattern on all their steel wheels. I have two from a early 90's caprice before they went to the 5" pattern. You should be able to pick up a set at any junk yard for a reasonable price.

I also just picked up a set of 2" spacers from ebay for $105. shipped to my door.

Thanks! Yeah the ones that go from 5x4.75 to 6 lug are an extra hundy.

If you are walking through the wrecking yard Chevy, Buick, Olds, Pontiac with lug nuts that take a 3/4 socket are almost always on a 5x4/3/4 bolt pattern while those that take a 13/16 lug wrench are on a 5 on 5 bolt pattern.

Brake size, lug bolt pattern and rim size depended a lot on how the car was equipped on full size cars like Impala, Caprice, Olds Delta 88 and big Buicks. You can have two mid 80's cars that look alike but one has 5 on 4-3/4 because it had a two barrel engine and the other has 5 on 5 because it came with a four barrel.

If you have a buddy at a tire store that sells a lot of custom rims they might have a decent matched set of steelies in the back for about the sameCh as the wrecking yards ask. I think the going price around here is about 15.oo each and if you live in an area that doesn't use snow tires they might be a lot less than that.

There are a number of lug bolt pattern gauges available that are pretty handy from one printed out on a business card to fancy ones like the ones in the following Ebay adds.

I picked this one up a couple of years ago and it is about 3/16 aluminum and slides in my hip pocket real easy to go wheel or axle hunting.

My wheels for my 48 off a 1976 Cadillac Seville that we used to have and my wife drove for several years.

Later Rear wheel drive Sevilles had 5 on 5 rims though.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
