Power steering foaming

Swapped engines, now power steering is making noise and foaming. I replaced both hoses and filled with new fluid to cold mark. I ran the engine and turned wheel L and R then it sat overnight, still foams. So how do you get the air out?

Re: Power steering foaming

Try turning the steering wheel lock to lock with the engine off a few times

Re: Power steering foaming

I had this problem on a late model truck with a rack a few years ago. Keep in mind that I change quite a few frames on the ones that have the harder hits so I've had my share of the lines loose before never running into this problem to this degree. After the other don't work if it don't work with the wheels pointed straight ahead, crank the engine turn almost to lock one side OR the other then shut it off. that will allow the pump to burp out the air that is causing the cavitation. Re: Power steering foaming

Also the pump can suck in air through a loose return line or return line with a pinhole in it.

Re: Power steering foaming

Jack the truck up in the front and slowly turn lock to lock a couple times. Check fluid level/top off. Turn lock to lock slowly a few more times. Check fluid level/top off. Repeat this until your level stays the same. Also, make sure you're using power steering fluid not ATF.
