What's it worth?
Hello all,
Planning on pulling the following from my '55 (2nd gen): In-line six motor, 4spd trans, drive line, and rear differential. Everything is original and everything works fine. The guy I bought the truck from said the engine rebuild was only a couple years old and it purrs like an old engine should. Was wondering if anyone could tell me what its all worth? Would like to sell as a complete package to someone doing a stock rebuild. I don't need to make a killing, just want to ask what is fair. Thanks |

Re: What's it worth?
There are a couple of recent threads from guys asking what it cost to rebuild one, we suggested getting a good running one was a better option. I see them in my area advertised on CL as running 235's for around $400.

Re: What's it worth?
I believe I've recently seen running 235's on ebay sold from 500 to 700. It's an easy search to check out for yourself. Good luck.

Re: What's it worth?
There's a 235 with transmission on Atl CL listed for $400. Says it's in good running condition, doesn't smoke or knock. I would have thought those engines would be worth more than that.

Re: What's it worth?
I sold the 235 from my 53 for $200, it was a running engine did not smoke or knock and I was glad to sell it to someone that was in need of a running engine, his old engine had a picture window in the block!
C List is your friend!

Re: What's it worth?
For a local pick up the market is much smaller but you could possibly ask a bit more for it.
The bigger problem is shipping out of the local area and thus the price would have to be lower but the market would be much larger. Plus you would have to mount it on pallets and truck ship it, of course you would charge for palletizing. And the would have to pay for shipping. Consider selling the engine , trans , and rear axle as seperate items also. What's it worth ? The market will tell you. BTW the engine is sought by rat rodders, and nostalgia drag racers along with everyone else.

Re: What's it worth?
I assume your 4 speed transmission is the granny gear SM420. If so, the rock crawler guys are all over that unit with that super low 1st gear. They make adapters to mate that unit to the jeep motors. If you advertise it in Craig's list make sure you reference that.
