Re: 305 v6 power steering question
DreamRyder Welcome!
So is that a factory set-up or homebuilt and would you provide better photos? What is the issue with the power steering?

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
According to the guy we bought the truck from, the pump is a dealer installed unit. I will post some better pics when I can. The problem we are having is this horrible squealing sound. Orginally I thought it was the alternator bearing or the old belts so we replaced both but the sound remains and it seems to be coming from the PS pump.

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
Thanks for the pics...interesting setup from the routing of the upper radiator hose to the exhaust manifold heat shield and "305e" sticker.
Squealing may be just insufficient fluid level or bad pump.

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
The upper radiator hose runs under the power steering pump to the water outlet. The hose that is connected to the exhaust manifold is a preheater hose for the breather. The pump has fluid which is why I think is bad. Would I be able to adapt a normal pump, such as the one in the link, to replace the one we have?

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
You have a pretty unique set-up already. Perhaps just have the current one rebuilt or replaced.
If you really want to go with the other style pump, then you need the GMC Specific power steering bracket; tough to find. Here is a link that may help you decide. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=532628

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
We would like to keep the original setup but I am having trouble finding a replacement like it. I checked out the thread you posted and the bottom half of the bracket setup looks similar to the GMC setup so we may be able to use the stock-style pump. Do you know of where I can get a pump like the one we have?

Here's what's listed at RockAuto.
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,7380 Yours may have come off a big truck application like this engine here; 379 V-6.

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
Hey MusicMan70, I am DreamRyder's brother and I wanted to thank you for all your help. At this point I think we are going try to adapt a normal PS pump from a 305 v6. The brackets look similar to the one posted in the other thread so we think it is at lest worth a shot. I will post back with the results.

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
I just wanted to give you an update. It turns out that the power steering isn't the problem. The bearing on the water pump is extremely loose and squealing. I wanted to thank you again MusicMan70.

Re: 305 v6 power steering question
Well that should be an easier fix! You're both welcome.
