Will '47-'50 doors fit on a '54 truck?
I would like to change the vent window doors on my '54 truck with earlier one-piece windows doors. Is there anything to the swap other than unbolting one and putting on the other?
Thanks, Ed |

hmmmm
Chevy Duty lists 47-51 and 52-54 latches & striker plates as different parts. Any idea if the early parts can be removed and the later ones installed or vice-versa? At the least it can't be too hard to put the early striker plates into a late cab. Hinge pins are listed as the same all years.
Thanks, Ed |

It's a piece of cake, just swap doors and strikers.

the 52-54 door latches are far supirior pieces you'd want to swap the handles.

Re: Will '47-'50 doors fit on a '54 truck?
I have news for you guys, the door jamb is different as well! The early strikers won't bolt to the late jambs. They "can" but it looks like crap. There was an "adapter" striker for 51's with a ventless door. I happen to have a pair but don't expect to find another.
Here is what I would do and what I am doing on my truck, bear claws. The stock latches are junk, just replace them with bear claws. Brian

Re: Will '47-'50 doors fit on a '54 truck?
Thanks Brian! Learn something every day if I'm not carefull.
my latches are worn on mine. I got in a pair of Bear Claw double latches. Maybe you can answer this Brian. I have been thinking of getting rid on my vent windows on my 54. Can I just get the earlier model glass? Will it fit if I get the proper channeling?

I don't remember. I am pretty sure that when I looked into that it wasn't as easy as you would think. The chrome trim is even different. I do know, it is "possible", just not a bolt in. The ventless doors do look a LOT better in my opinion.

I'm back and forth on the idea. Probably keep what I have.
Thanks!

Re: Will '47-'50 doors fit on a '54 truck?
Having exactly the same problem. My 51 suburban already has early doors, it appears that the later strikers dont have the ability to adjust in and out on the door, only up and down which is a problem. especially as I have only just bought a new set of early door handles !!!??
