Just venting !!
Being from the UK i am quite new to American trucks but have been working in the automotive sector all my life.
I am finding it very hard with working on my 71 C10 short bed, mainly down to parts not fitting ! and to add insult to injury vendors / manufacturers not really being bothered. I brought some lower arms from CPP the the shock mount brackets are not in the right place, you can not get a full size nut on them ! Spent $1000 on a ididit column only to find the accessory relays are not like they say they are on the site IE sold short, the accessory wire is in a very bad place and is going to get cut though and i have to take a angle grinder to the shaft to make it fit the stock shaft. Ididit admits there are issues but i quote "Unfortunately there is no good fix for this issue, at this time" put it back to the vendor who promised a reply on Monday O and they sent the wrong steering wheel adapter. Got some new rear drums from ECE there is no slot in them to adjust the shoes, i have got to go and mill them in myself. I have had 2 parcels now from LMC and both have arrived without any packing inside the box whatsoever ! all the parts are just smashing into each other. Both boxes had very little packing tape and had came apart. And now when i have come to fit the ECE sway front sway bar the bushes in the lower arms keep popping out when i tighten up the bolts, ECE says it fits better when the truck is on the ground. I would have thought with lots of vendors/ suppliers of these parts for the C10 they could get there act together and make parts that fit and work. Am i expecting too much here ? I run my own parts business and there is no way i could get away with any of the above. Rant over

Re: Just venting !!
Do yourself a favor and buy from the vendors that you see posting on this board. They are the ones that sell what they use on their own trucks.

Re: Just venting !!
Sorry to hear all the problems you're having. the issue is that the vendors/ suppliers don't have a clue what fits or not unless they bought and tried to install them on their own vehicle. They buy items and sell to us with their web pages full of products. They go by info from what the companies that build and design the items...

Re: Just venting !!
Hey it happens, I agree with 71sw4x4, that's your best bet. It does get frustrating though!

Re: Just venting !!
That is frustrating and a bit of a sticky wicket to be sure.
Just curious, do you run into this same issue when working on your F430?

Re: Just venting !!
paul v ,i am having the same problem restoring my c10. 99 percent of the aftermarket parts i paid good money for did not fit, crooked, bent, dented, scratched, cracked, very poor quality, defective, wrong year.wont fit, wrong part-3 to 4 times, folded, kinked, squashed and put in box.none of the damaged parts were from shipping they were put in the box in that condition, most of parts had to be cut, drilled reamed and welded to fit.the restoration turned into a nightmare.next time i will deal with the board members with good used parts although i did have good luck with gmc pauls

Re: Just venting !!
I installed the ECE lowered sway bar brackets on my 72 with no problem.
I was laying on the ground when I did it though, and the truck was supported by its own wheels and suspension...

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=668376 I can see that it may work with the truck on the ground but as soon as you jack the truck up of put it on a 2 post ramp the bushes will pop out, well is does on mine as per video

Re: Just venting !!
Interesting, the old drums have them and the manual refers to them as well ?

Let him rant! I think we all know what if feels like to pay good money for something and be disappointed when it fits poorly or not at all !
I am also, working on a British sports car, a lot of the repo parts a just crap, I made a promise to myself to buy NOS old stock or good used from now on. Don't even ask about the 49 Diamond T in the shop.... Posted via Mobile Device |
