Question Non-power steering maintenance? (65 GMC C10)

Anyone know what I should do to service the gear box? (I think that's what it's called...) It says on top of it "CHECK LUBE" so I'm not sure what to do.

I would like to know too. I have a rebuilt box but from what I've gathered from different posts is that you want to use corn head grease to fill the box as any type of fluid would eventually leak out. Also overfilling can blow out the seals so I would like to know an exact procedure as well!
