Dash gauge lights not working
Hey guys, electrical is not my strongest, so I am looking for some help. My dash gauge lights don't work. My headlights, taillights, dome light, dimmer, turn signals & indicators, hibeam and indicator as well as the heater panel lights all work, just no dash gauge lights. The fuse is not blown either. I am thinking it is a bad headlight switch, but not sure. I have a multimeter, but not sure how to test the switch or other areas that may be the problem.

Re: Dash gauge lights not working
Dumb question, but did you try rotating the headlight switch knob that dims the dash lights and turns on the dome light? If it's not that simple, perhaps the rheostat coil on the front of the switch is broken. The coil is the curved spring-like thing at the front in the picture below. It could also be a problem with the printed circuit behind the cluster.

Re: Dash gauge lights not working
I did rotate the knob as one of the first things I tried, but no change. Nothing in my life is ever that easy of a fix!!!!

Can you see what shape the rheostat coil is in? Can you can get at the plug at the back of the cluster to remove it? If so, remove it and reinsert it. You may want to just wiggle it first and see if anything changes. |

Re: Dash gauge lights not working
Check power at the Cluster Feed on the fusebox and then check the grey wire (methinks) on the connector going to the back of the dash PCB.
If it's got power there, it can only be ground, the PCB itself, or all dead bulbs (unlikely). If it doesn't work back from there to where it does!

Re: Dash gauge lights not working
If the heater control lamp is working that means you have power from the headlight switch.I'm thinking bad groundto the cluster

Re: Dash gauge lights not working
Where would I locate the ground coming off of the gauge cluster?

Re: Dash gauge lights not working
I have found a couple that had a ground strap screwed to the cluster case and it clipped to the cluster opening in the dash. I usually just make one and call if good. But to answer your question, I think it originally grounded through the printed circuit
