Good Deal or no?
Ok this is the deal I have a friend that owns a wrecker service and he has a rolled over 2003 Suburban with the 5.3l in it. He is selling me the engine with harness, computer, gas pedal, brake system (brake booster, master cylinder brake pedal, brake lines), and everything that is in the gas tank and fuel lines. How much he wants you ask $650.00. Now the question is am I getting a good deal or not? Might seem like a dumb question but the only thing that has me thinking is the vehicle rolled over. Thanks for your input.

Re: Good Deal or no?
The rollover could be a problem if, for example, it lost oiling and continued to run. Does the engine run now? Can you listen to it run?

Re: Good Deal or no?
Should be a good deal. But as trickster mentioned, if the engine continued to run...

Re: Good Deal or no?
I could be wrong, but I believe the fuel system has a roll over cut off so it doesn't continue to run if it rolls.

Re: Good Deal or no?
I was told that they have some type of sensor that is the oil pressure gets to low it cuts off the engine whether it's true or not I don't know maybe someone has some guidance as to that.

Re: Good Deal or no?
I'll get pics later, it looks like the oil came up to the intake as it rolled over and landed on the roof. But like i stated above i was told there is a sensor for the oil pressure if it gets to low it will shutoff the engine.

Re: Good Deal or no?
I've built hundreds of rollovers in my shop[that is what I do build wrecks] in the last 30 odd years and I have never had a wreck related drive train fail from a rollover.
That money is about right I get right in that money for my 5.3's a little less for 4.8's. I usually get between 850 to 1250 for a loaded setup w/trans and couple hundred more for the 6.0/4l80E. So the money is ok, next thing yes they will shut off in a roll and they will also cut the fuel in a low oil situation. There is a low pressure cut off and has been since the late 80's with the advent of TBI. The only thing if there is oil present in the intake make double barrel sure you take out ALL 8 plug[ of the spark kind] and turn the motor over, by hand is ok just to be sure your not hydro-locked. The only time I've seen builders need a motor for a roll over was they did not do that step and when they went to start it it may have kicked before it turned all the way over and it will bend/break a connecting rod. |

Re: Good Deal or no?
I wouldn't dare call someone dumb for my poor lack of communicating. What I meant to say if someone tried to start the motor and it started before it cycled all of the oil out it [the motor] starts or tries and the oil in the cyl doesn't compress as a air fuel charge does that will bend or break a rod
