Wheel backspace questions for a 3/4 ton
I'm looking to get new wheels for my truck my truck has stock 16s which I'm assuming is 6in wide. I know nothing about backspacing all I know is I keep seeing 8 lug wheel with a -12 or 12 or 0 backspacing. I hate how far in my wheels sit so I want to get a 16x8 my tires are 235-85-r16. My question is what's the difference in the backspacing, what would bring my wheel out flush with my fender or stick out just a bit and what would work with my tires?
I know I could just go to a tire shop and ask but it's 8:30pm where I live and I wanted to see if I could get an answer soon than tomorrow morning lol

Re: Wheel backspace questions for a 3/4 ton
Stance and wheel fit are a personal preference as far as appearance. My own opinion is sticking out any is no good. I prefer a zero offset rim on a 3/4 ton truck and on my old C20 Sierra Grande I ran 265 75 16 on 16x7 Alcoas with 4" backspace. 4" backspace on a 7" rim is zero offset.
A +12mm would be 4.5" backspace and a -12mm would be 3.5" backspace in the case of the 7" rim I mentioned. On an 8" rim, 4.5" would be zero offset. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Wheel backspace questions for a 3/4 ton
These are F#rd van rims that are 16 x 7 with a 4.5" backspace.
Just a little warning, if you go to 8" wide rims you are going wider the tire manufacturer's recommendations for a 235/85/16 tire. That's a pretty wide rim for that narrow a tire.
