broken shock mount
I'm in the process of reversing the lowered rear end of my 76 chevy c10.
when I removed the shock mount extensions I found this lovely gem. thoughts on a repair? I'm sure my only option is to remove the axle, take it to a shop and have a new mount welded on but I wanted to ask the experts first. I'm taking the truck back to stock height and it has been a real pain. Any alternatives that are bolted to axle? any and all help is appreciated. |

Re: broken shock mount
Do you have any access to a welder? Weld a thick washer on the side of it and that is your new hole for the mount.

Re: broken shock mount
My thoughts exactly. Just grind clean and weld a new washer in the right spot.
But moving the holes lower would not throw off the shock. Shocks don't determine ride height, springs do. But easier to do the washer welding thing anyway. That way, it is in the right spot. |

Re: broken shock mount
While the person with the welding rig is there with his/her equipment, might check the other side and make sure it isn't about to fail in a similar fashion. If you have to move the holes, move the ones on the other side a similar amount. That way, the shocks on both sides will react the same to the road. No point in introducing subtle handing issues.
Most stock springs are on top. I know my 75's are. Be sure to give the welded area a good brushing and coat of paint. Unpainted welded metal tends to rust quickly. |

Re: broken shock mount
thanks for the quick reply. I will definitely paint the bracket after its welded....and go figure, both sides are broke in the exact same way. So both sides will need some welding action.
springs on top, roger that. That is what I FIGURED but im not too ashamed to ask dumb questions. |

I'm assuming because the truck was slammed, 5 inches in the rear I believe and The shocks I removed 2 days ago were stock length.
I can't wait to get this Chevy back to riding the way it was meant to. Posted via Mobile Device |
