Shipping damage to 4l60, need advice
Hi I just got my LS1 and 4l60e delivered and there's some damage to the transmission. Looks like the delivery company hit the tail housing and shaft with something. Can I just replace the tail housing, or should the transmission be opened up for inspection? What could be bad inside due to the impact of the tail shaft?

Tough call really, Torrington bearing & Thrust washers can be damaged by impact....If it got hit "Square". I they hit it at an angle....The Case bushing could have been hurt.
Like I said, It's a tough call.....Make them pay for it being torn down, Maybe they will learn not to hit stuff with a Forklift |

I'd get them to agree on letting you open it up. It obviously took a hit. I wouldn't chance it. Then put some upgrades in it while you are in there!

Re: Shipping damage to 4l60, need advice
Local transmission shop said the shaft and internals should be fine. Told me $75 to replace tail housing, so I think I will just fix it and move on. I don't have the time to deal with the shipping company.
